Bears Fall in Final Seconds to William Peace

RALEIGH, NC — William Peace made a last minute comeback to defeat Coast Guard women's basketball, 86-84 on Sunday afternoon. The Bears drop to 3-7 while William Peace improves to 6-5.

Sophomore Annabella Farabaugh paced the Bears with 24 points, going 9-17 from the field, 2-6 from behind the three point arc, and 4-6 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Johanna Moolenaar added 15 points, 7-11 from the field and 3-3 from the free throw line. Junior Breanna Wood chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Mikayla Ray led Williams Peace with 25 points while Khadijah Daniels added 19 points in the victory for the Pacers.

Coast Guard took the lead early, as they held a 18-7 advantage in the first quarter. William Peace starting inching their way to close the deficit in the second quarter trailing 23-21 at the 6:24 mark. Coast Guard was able to maintain the lead to the end half with a 38-31 score.

Both teams scored 28 points in the third quarter. Zoe Riis-Fallica and Wood both scored nine points in the third to lead Coast Guard players as they held a lead 66-59. William Peace chipped away in the fourth quarter and out scored the Bears, 27-18. Coast Guard held the lead until the final seconds when Daniels tied the game 84-84 with two free-throws. With three seconds remaining, Daniels went back to the line and sank two additional free-throws to give the Pacers the 86-84 victory.

Coast Guard went 33-73 (45.2%) from the field and also held a 47-37 advantage in rebounds in the setback.

The Bears finish their road trip on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Elizabethtown.
