BABSON PARK, Mass. - Babson used an 11 point first quarter lead to top Coast Guard 61-47 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 10-10 overall and 5-7 in conference play, while the Beavers improve to 15-7 on the season and 11-2 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Katherine Tamulionis had a game high 14 points and three steals for Babson. Junior Payton Ouimette finished with 13 points and seven rebounds while junior Elizabeth Lane scored 12 points with seven rebounds as well.
After Gerton knocked down two free-throws to start the game, the Beavers ended the opening quarter on a 15-2 run to take an 11 point lead (15-4) into the second quarter.
Coast Guard came out in the second on a 7-0 run to close within four of Babson led by four points from sophomore Laura Irish and a three-pointer from freshman Annabella Farabaugh with 8:05 left making the score 15-11.
The Beavers then scored the next four points and kept the lead to eight to end the half, going into the locked with a 28-20 lead.
Babson once again came out in the second half on an 8-0 run pushing their advantage to 16 (36-20) with 8:01 left to play in the third quarter.
Coast Guard was unable to get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way as the Bears fell to the Beavers 61-47.
Coast Guard shot 34.0% (18-53) from the floor and made 3-12 (25.0%) from three. The Bears held a 19-9 advantage in bench points.
Babson made 22-64 (34.4%) overall and were 35.7% (5-14) from beyond the arc.
Coast Guard is back in action on Monday, February 5th, when they travel to Chicopee, Massachusetts to talk on the Elm Blazers in non-conference action. Opening tip is 7:00.
