SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Six players scored in double figures for the Bears as Coast Guard wrapped up the regular season with a 87-41 victory over Mount Holyoke in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
With the victory the Bears improve to 11-14 overall and 8-8 in conference play. The Lyons drop to 2-22 on the season and 0-16 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Gill Gerton led all player with 15 points, eight assists and nine rebounds. Senior Amanda Roy scored 14 points while junior Jill Bray added 12 points with eight assists and freshman Laura Irish scored 12 and added nine rebounds. Freshman Breanna Wood dropped in 11 points with five boards while sophomore Micaela Martinelli was the final double digit scorer for Coast Guard with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Kathryn Violette led Mount Holyoke with nine points while Lead Hodges and Genesis DiCarlo each scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Bears jumped out to a 24-11 lead in the first quarter and then pushed it to 43-18 at the half behind ten points from Bray and seven points from Martinelli.
It was more of the same in the second half as Coast Guard pushed the lead all the way to 69-26 at the end of the third quarter before wrapping up the 87-41 win.
The Bears shot 47.4% (36-76) overall and were 11-25 (44.0%) from beyond the arc. Coast Guard held a large advantage in rebounds (49-31) and points off turnovers (33-11).
Mount Holyoke made 18-57 (31.6%) from the floor while shooting 22.2% (2-9) from three.
The sixth-seeded Bears will play at third-seeded WPI in the quarterfinals of the NEWMAC Tournament on Wednesday at 7:00.
