GREENCASTLE, Ind. –Yanni Saddler had a game-high 18 points leading Millikin to a 70-49 win over Coast Guard at the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Classic at DePauw.
Freshman Audrey Bartz led Coast Guard with a career-high ten points off the bench in the loss. Junior Gill Gerton led the Bears with seven rebounds to go with her seven points. Freshman Breanna Wood and junior Jill Bray each added nine points for the Bears.
Millikin, which improved to 7-4 on the season, jumped out to an 8-0 lead with 7:21 left in the first quarter and led 18-8 after the first quarter.
The Big Blue had a strong start to the second quarter as well using a 10-2 spurt to open up a 28-10 lead with 5:37 left in the first half.
Coast Guard would score the final six points of the half cutting the deficit to 33-22 at the break.
Millikin scored the first six points of the second half pushing the lead to 39-22 with 6:53 left in the third quarter.
Bray hit a 3-pointer to cap an 8-2 run as the Bears closed to within 41-30 with 4:48 left in the third and Coast Guard trailed 43-34 after three quarters.
Millikin put the game away with a 12-2 run turning a 49-41 lead with 4:39 into a 61-43 lead with 2:29 left.
Coast Guard shot 37.5 percent from the floor (21-56) and made 4 of 16 from behind the arc while Millikin finished the game 26 of 67 (38.8 percent) and made 10 of 29 from 3-point range.
The Bears (2-8) are back in action on Wednesday when they host MIT in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener at 7:30.
