GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Coast Guard dropped the first game of their winter break trip falling to DePauw 79-38 at the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Challenge.
With the loss the Bears record drops to 2-7 while the Tigers improve to 12-1.
Coast Guard was led by junior Gill Gerton who had 10 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Breanna Wood added nine points and five rebounds while sophomore Micaela Martinelli scored five points with five rebounds.
Sydney Kopp led all scorers with 23 points making 9-14 from the floor. Kylie Morris dropped 11 points and added four rebounds while Claire Ryan scored nine points and collected seven rebounds.
In the early goings of the first quarter the Bears kept the game tied at five as Gerton knocked down a three pointer with 7:27 left in the opening stanza. DePauw however went on a 19-7 run to finish the quarter taking a 24-12 leading going into the second period.
After a defensive second quarter where the two teams combined for 18 points, the Tigers closed out the game in the third quarter outscoring Coast Guard 22-9 on the way to their ninth victory in a row.
Coast Guard were 16 of 46 (34.8%) from the floor and shot 20% (4-20) from beyond the arc.
DePauw shot 43.3% (29-67) overall and knocked down 6-23 (26.1%) from three. The Tigers controlled the paint scoring 42 points and grabbing 41 rebounds, 20 of them offensive.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, December 31 when they play Millikin in their second game at the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Challenge. Opening tip is 5:00 pm eastern time.
