TOP MOMENT #4 – MEGHAN FORNARO NAMED NEWMAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

TOP MOMENT #4 – MEGHAN FORNARO NAMED NEWMAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Senior Meghan Fornaro was been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Year and also earned a spot on the D3hoops.com All-region first team.

Fornaro, who led the NEWMAC in scoring with 19.5 points per game, becomes just the second Coast Guard player to be named NEWMAC Player of the Year. Natalie Moyer won the award in 2008.

She was a first-team All-conference selection for the second straight season as she shot a team-high 40 percent from the field and led the Bears with 41 three-pointers, 72 assists and 63 steals.

Fornaro finished her career third all-time at the Academy with 1,469 points while she also ranks fourth in assists (291), second in steals (220) and sixth with 148 three-pointers. Her 506 points this season was the fourth most in school history in a single-season.

She became the first Coast Guard player to earn D3hoops.com All-region honors since 2009'-10 when Melissa Martinelli was a third team selection. She was just the second Bears player to earn first team All-region honors as Martinelli was a first team selection in both 2007-'08 and 2008-'09.
