WASHINGTON, D.C. - Junior Gill Gerton and freshman Breanna Wood each notched a double double as Catholic topped Coast Guard 66-60 in nonconference action.

The Bears drop to 2-2 on the year while the Cardinals stay undefeated at 4-0.

Gerton scored 10 points and added 11 rebounds while Wood had 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds shooting a perfect 4-4 from the floor. Junior Jill Bray made three three pointers on her way to a team high 11 points while freshman Zoe Riis-Fallica scored a career best nine points.

The Cardinals were led by senior Michelle DeSantis who scored a game high 23 points, including her 1,000th career point, with seven assists and four steals. Senior Bernadette Launi shot 50% (3-6) from beyond the arc scoring 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds while senior Melissa Errico added 12 points with five rebounds.

The Bears jumped out to an early seven point lead as Gerton made one of two free throws at the 3:07 mark to make the score 11-4.

Coast Guard pushed their lead to 12 with 10 seconds to go in the opening period as Bray found Wood for the layup for a 20-8 score.

Catholic took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears 18-6 in the period to go into the second half with a 28-26 lead. Launi scored nine of her 15 points in the second quarter.

After the Cardinals pushed their lead to four at the start of the third quarter Bray came back and drained a three pointer to keep the deficit to one at 30-29 with 7:30 to go in the third period.

That was as close as the Bears would get in the third as Catholic went up by as many as 13 ending the period with a 47-36 lead.

The Cardinals kept a double digit lead throughout the final quarter and Coast Guard was only able to close within six late as Catholic finished off the 66-60 win.

The Bears shot 34.9% (22-63) from the floor and 9-25 (36%) from beyond the arc. Coast Guard held a strong advantage on the boards (45-31) but could not control the pant as the Cardinals outscored the Bears 26-12.

Catholic shot 23-53 (43.4%) overall and 38.5% (5-13) from three. The Cardinals made turnovers count as they got nearly half their points from take aways with 32 points.

Coast Guard is back in action on Wednesday, November 30th when they host Smith College in the Bears NEWMAC opener. Opening tip is 7:00.
