CLERMONT, Fla.-- Coast Guard split with Scranton and Ursinus on Thursday in the fourth day of The Springs Games. The Bears fell, 6-2 against Scranton, and had an, 8-5 victory over Ursinus. The Bears are now 4-4 on the season.
The Bears play their final two games tomorrow at 9:00 AM against Concordia Chicago and at 11:15 AM against Fredonia.
GAME ONE-- SCRANTON 6, COAST GUARD 2
In the top of the first, Kraiss got on from a fielder's choice and advanced to second on an error which sent Hurley home to get the Bears on the board first. Megan Zinn had a two-run triple in the bottom of the first, to give Scranton a 2-1 advantage. Scranton got one more in the bottom of the first to extend to a 3-1 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Scranton struck again when Brianna Lehr hit an RBI double to give Scranton a 4-1 edge.
Hurley had an RBI single in the top of the sixth to cut the Bear's deficit in half, 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Mackenzie Duffy hit a two run double to give Scranton the 6-2 final.
GAME TWO-- COAST GUARD 8, URSINUS 5
Junior Carly Hattman was 3-for-4 with two runs, classmate Courtney McKenna went 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBI's, and Kylie Vaverek had two RBI's to lead the Bears in their 8-5 victory over Ursinus.
Ursinus got on the board first in the top of the first inning, coming from a sacrifice fly. The Bears used four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-1 lead over Ursinus.
Delaney Baker hit a two-run home run for Ursinus in the top of the third to tie the game, 4-4.
McKenna had a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth to give the Bears a 6-4 lead. Ursinus scored one more in the top of the fifth but Vaverek and Hurley brought in two more runs for the Bears to take the 8-5 final.
Julia Ferris pitched the full game with five strikeouts to improve to 3-1 on the season.
