Sailing Wins First Annual Barque Eagle Team Race

NEW LONDON, Conn.--(4/1/13)--The Sailing Team hosted two other teams on the Thames this past weekend for the inaugural Barque Eagle Team Race.  Named after the only commissioned sailing vessel in American military service, this event will be contested in New London each spring with participants from the New England and Mid-Atlantic Conferences.

In the regatta's building year, the Salve Regina Seahawks and the University of Rhode Island Rams both sent squads and were welcomed by perfect team racing conditions that allowed each team to sail multiple races.

Coast Guard and Rhode Island both finished the regatta with a 9-3 record, losing to each other the same amount of times, but Coast Guard won the tiebreaker on higher finishes in head to head races. Close racing and a range of conditions made for an excellent day on the water.

Sailing for the Bears were Bradley Milliken, Robert Turley, Dylan Finneran, Joshua Moan, Avery Fanning, Jennifer Lane, Bradley Brown, and Michael Caballero.

Next up for the team is the Coed New England Championship on April 13-14 hosted by Brown University, at which the Bears will be hoping to earn a berth to the National Championship Semi-Finals.  On the same weekend, the women's team will host 17 other schools from around the country for the Women's Emily Wick Trophy.
