Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy? I chose to come to the Academy because I wanted to help people. I was really unsure about my future and this opportunity was something different, with a cause.
How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing? I have been sailing since I was 10. I started sailing by attending a learn-to-sail day camp near my home in Ohio, and I got really into it. I haven't stopped sailing since.
What is your favorite thing about the sailing team at Coast Guard? Our team is so close and I can go to anyone for anything if I am ever feeling down or stressed. We are like a family and I love that.
What other activities/positions/clubs are you involved with on campus? I am also a member of the ski and snowboard club and adventure sports club here at school.
What is the sailing achievement that you are most proud of? I am most proud of being voted team captain this year. I love this team and I would do anything for anyone of my teammates. Being captain allows me to be even more involved in helping my teammates.
What are your future sailing plans and career goals after graduation? I plan to keep sailing after college (I don't know what boat or which races, but I will keep racing) and I plan to someday go to medical school and practice medicine.
Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you. I think my teammates would be surprised to know that I read sappy Jodi Picoult novels. I'm not exactly a girly person except when it comes to reading these books.
