Why did you choose to come to the Coast Guard Academy?

I chose to attend the academy to be a part of something bigger than myself, to volunteer in a service dedicated to the betterment of others, and their safety. I wanted to attend a school where everyone was held to a higher standard and pushed like they never have been before.

How long have you been sailing? How did you start sailing?  If new to sailing tell us about any other sports you played in high school and why you joined the sailing team?

I began sailing when I was 8 years old and have been doing so ever since. It all began at a small community boating center ran by Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. I grew up in the program where we sailed Cape Cod Mercury’s and 420’s. I became an instructor for the program and spent all the time I could teaching the kids how to be safe, and sail fast.

What do you look forward to the most this upcoming sports season at Coast Guard?

This season I look forward to getting back into the quick J70’s after closing the fall season with our Colgate 26’s. I am eager to learn as much as I can from my coaches and my teammates, along with winning as much as possible.

What is the achievement, sailing or from any other activity, that you are most proud of?

The one achievement I am most proud of is from my high school swimming career where my teammates and I worked extremely hard to make it to sectional competition in our relay race.

What are your future sailing plans and / or career goals after graduation?

I plan to sail the seven seas as a proud coast guardsman, saving lives and helping others. But I really would love to own a cruiser someday and sail for fun. Along with volunteering my time to teach underprivileged kids the basics of sailing, much like I did in high school.

Tell us something that your teammates would be surprised to know about you?

I was originally recruited to play water polo at the academy but unfortunately the water polo team was cut. So, I needed a sport to play and I joined the offshore sailing team. And that was the best decision I have made so far at the academy.
