COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. -- Coast Guard posted its best performance of the Year at the President's Cup Match at the Air Force Academy.
The Bears opened with a season-high performance in smallbore rifle. Sophomore Alexandria Harrington led the team with a personal best of 565 while classmate Melissa Brizzi anchored the team with a 526, her personal best. In between, sophomore Randall Ford put up a season best 556 while senior captain Nick Paisker pitched in with a 555 to give the team a year high score of 2202.
After a brief break the Bears returned to the range for air rifle competition which saw Paisker shoot a team high 580. Harrington posted a 574 as Ford continued on a roll shooting his second season best performance of the day, a 568. Bouncing back from a disappointing smallbore performance sophomore Jake Dupree nailed down a solid 550 to give the team a year high air rifle score of 2272.
The aggregate score of 4474 marks the highwater mark, so far, for the season.
Coast Guard rose to the occasion, shooting it best of the year against Air Force, Army, and Navy, but could not overcome the powerhouse strength of its DI sister academies.
The Bears are now 3-5 on the season, remaining undefeated in conference action. That perfect conference record will be put to the test next weekend when Coast Guard hosts conference rivals Yale, Canisius, John Jay, and Penn State in the first weekend of the annual Admiral's Cup Tournament.
