NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard Rifle has qualified for the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship to be held at Virginia Military Institute on March 5th.

The Bears will face Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Virginia Military Institute in smallbore. The teams are closely matched with MIT 12-0, Coast Guard 11-1, and VMI 10-2 in regular season smallbore competition.

Junior Nick Paisker, sophomore Lindsey Critser, and freshmen Alexandria Harrington and Randall Ford rank in the top 12 smallbore shooters in the conference but VMI also has four and MIT one.

Air rifle will be closely contested as John Jay, MIT, and Coast Guard all sit at 9-1 after each suffered a loss to each other during the regular season.

While all five Coast Guard starters, Paisker, Critser, Ford, Harrington, and Sky Ambrose are in the conference's top twenty in air rifle, John Jay and MIT each have four.

It will be a hotly contested event. The Bears are coming off of a late season slump but have two weeks to work out the kinks and be at the top of their game.

Head shooting coach Rick Hawkins notes that "The team has improved over the last three seasons, had many high points, and worked through some adversity to get to this stage. I am pleased that they have extended our season and we can represent the Coast Guard Academy at the conference championships".
