TOP MOMENT #2 – FRESHMEN HELEN OH AND BRIAN KIM WIN PISTOL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

TOP MOMENT #2 – FRESHMEN HELEN OH AND BRIAN KIM WIN PISTOL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Freshmen Helen Oh and Brian Kim both won rifle national championships as Coast Guard had its best team performance in over a decade.

On the first day of competition, Oh started with a win and the National Championship in Women's Air Pistol, firing a 374. In the team event the Bears placed fifth, with Oh's 374 leading the way.

Oh continued her success by placing eighth in Open Free Pistol with a 504. The Bears placed seventh in the team event firing a 1906, behind Oh's and Kim's 504 points each.

On the second day of competition, Oh led the Bears with a fourth place finish in the Women's Sport Pistol with a 549. The Bears finished fifth in the team event with a 1576, with Oh's 549.

Kim won the Bronze medal in the Open Standard Pistol Competition firing a 534. The Bears placed seventh shooting a 1975, behind Kim's 534 and Oh's 492 points.

On the last day of competition and two days after winning the Women's Air Pistol Championship, Oh finished up in fourth place after the qualification match in the Open Air Pistol event. In the subsequent finals match she posted the highest score and when added to her qualification score, she earned the Silver Medal in the Open Air Pistol event. The Bears placed sixth in the team event firing a 2166, behind Oh's 559, Kim's 551 points.

Kim followed his previous success with a Gold Medal and a National Championship on the last day of the competition in Men's Sport Pistol, firing a 557.

Oh continued her winning ways by earning the Silver Medal for her combined score in the Women's Grand Aggregate. For her regular season performance, she was named First Team All-American in Open Air Pistol, Women's Air Pistol and Women's Sport Pistol, and Honorable Mention All American in Open Free Pistol.

Kim was named First Team All-American in Open Standard Pistol and Honorable Mention in Open Free Pistol.
