CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Bears defeated all teams in shoulder-to-shoulder competition with 6,324 points against The Citadel's 6299 and Navy's 6061 total points.
The Bears beat Navy in each event while Coast Guard beat the Bulldogs in Free Pistol, and Standard Pistol, while losing a close match in Air Pistol by five points.
Sophomore Brian Kim led the Bears with a 508 in Free Pistol, while Freshman Kevin Bennett led in Standard Pistol, firing a 551, and sophomore Helen Oh firing the high Air Pistol score of the competition, 567.
The Air Pistol score was a new Academy record, surpassing the old record of 2201 shot in March 2002. Participants were Helen Oh, Brian Kim, Kevin Bennett, Sophomore Saranjoe Sukcha, and Freshman Kevin Ramos.
In Standard Pistol, the Bears defeated The Citadel by eight points and defeated Navy by 80 points. In Free Pistol, the Bears defeated The Citadel by 21 points and defeated Navy by 133 points. Air Pistol was a bitter sweet match. Even though the Bears fired a new Academy record, 2203, the Bulldogs of The Citadel fired four points higher, coming in with a 2207.
The women's team was missing one of their teammates, sophomore Annika Lehenbauer, due to an academic class, and could have used her steady performance. Navy revenged their loss from the previous week, defeating the Bears in Women's Air Pistol, 1077 to 1062, with Helen Oh leading all competitors with a 377, sophomore Mary Carr with a 351, and junior Meghan Van Hise with a 334. In Women's Sport Pistol, again Navy defeated the Bears 1586 to 1527, with Oh leading all competitors with a 546, Carr fired a 458, and Van Hise a 523.
