Pistol Team Qualifies For National Championships

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Coast Guard Academy Pistol Team has been invited to compete in the National Collegiate Pistol Championships at Fort Benning, Georgia March 13th to 17th.

The team qualified in all five events, free, standard and air pistol as well as women's air and women's sport pistol. The open team is seeded fifth while the women's team is seeded third.

Freshman Helen Oh had a stellar performance at the Sectional Championships emerging as the sectional collegiate champion in open air pistol, women's sport pistol, women's air pistol, and second overall in open standard pistol. She only needs to add Collegiate National Champion in those same events at Fort Benning to show her dominance in the pistol events.

Individually Oh will compete in all five events, freshman Brian Kim will shoot in all three open events. Freshman Saranjoe Sukcha will participate in free pistol and sophomore Meghan Van Hise will compete in women air pistol for the Bears.

Eight cadets, sophomores Van Hise and Kevin Lennox and freshmen Oh, Kim, Sukcha, Carr, Annika Lehenbauer, and Nick Woolfork, will represent Coast Guard as this season's capstone event.
