WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Bears competed in the Pistol Collegiate Sectional. The Collegiate Sectional is used to determine who attends the National Collegiate Pistol Championships at Fort Benning, Ga. in March.
The Bears fell short in the Aggregate Open Competition to West Point, but defeated USMMA again, 6231, to 6406, to 5894, respectively. The Bears 6231 was the best team score in over three years.
The Black Knights, Bears, and the Mariners battled it out in Free Pistol, with the Black Knights on top for a 2042, 1961, to 1814 victory. Freshman Brian Kim was high shooter for the Bears with a 499. The other members of the Bears scoring team were freshmen Helen Oh (497), Saranjoe Sukcha (491), and Reid Wiegleb (474).
Saturday morning, the Bears opened up against USMMA and USMA in Air Pistol, shooting a 2181, to USMA's 2231, to USMMA's 2100. Oh fired another Academy record, breaking her own record by 12 points, firing a competition high 573. Rounding out the four person team was Kim (547), Sukcha (525), and sophomore Kevin Lennox (536).
Saturday afternoon, saw the Bears shoot a solid Standard Pistol score, firing a 2089, to the Mariners 1980, and the Black Knights 2133. Oh again led the competition with a 548, Kim (527), Wiegleb (505), and Lennox (509) rounded out the four person scoring team.
In the Women's events, the Bears bested a one week old Academy record in the Women's Team Aggregate events, firing a 2679. Oh fired a 379 Air Pistol score, tying an eleven year old Collegiate National Record and breaking her own Academy Record by seven points. Sophomore Van Hise (354) and freshman Annika Lehenbauer (351) rounded out the three person team score with a 1084.
In Women's Sport Pistol, Oh fired a superb 565, with freshman Mary Carr (518) and Lehenbauer (512) shooting a team score of 1595. The Bears defeated West Point in each event.
The Bears are now 5-5 for the season.
