2015-16 Pistol Season Preview

Returning Coast Guard pistol team members Megan Van Hise and Kevin Lennox will be joined by a combination of nationally ranked shooters and excited walk-ons.

Brian Kim is a product of California's Bridge Junior Shooting Club, a USA Shooting Certified Training Center, member of US Team at the Inaugural Junior World Cup in Germany, 2014 World Championship in Spain, and in Czech Republic at Shooting Hopes Competition. He placed in the top three in air pistol and was the National Champion in Junior Sport Pistol during the Junior Olympic Pistol Championship at the Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Like Kim, Helen Oh also shot for California's Bridge Junior Shooting Club, She represented the United States in the 2014 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship in Air Pistol, She placed 8th in air pistol at the Junior Olympic Pistol Championship held at Olympic Training Center in 2014 and 6th in 2015.

An experienced service rifle shooter, who is on the verge of completing the requirements of the Distinguished Marksman Badge, is Reid Wiegleb. The North Carolina native plans on doubling down on his service rifle skills to succeed with the handgun.

Nick Woolfork Is an experienced shotgun shooter who won 2004c Maryland Junior Trap Championship as well as the 2014 Pennsylvania Open Handicap Junior Trap Championship who looks forward to transitioning to a varsity pistol shot.

Adding depth are walk-ons Annika Lehenbauer, Mary Carr, and Saranjoe Sukcha  who shot M-16 and Steyr AUG riles while a student at the National Defense University of Malaysia and as an Officer Cadet in the Royal Malaysian Navy before coming to Coast Guard.

Head shooting coach Rick Hawkins is looking forward to an exciting season as the Academy fields one of its most accomplished teams in recent years. The team shows great promise and is capable of having a stellar season with hopes of placing some Bears on the All-American Teams as well as making a big splash in the National Championship.

The Bears will begin is journey toward the National Championship on October 24-25th with its opening match away at The Citadel.
