Bears Open Season with a Win

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Coast Guard put three finishers in the top ten on their way to a season opening victory at the Smith Invitational.

The Bears scored 40 points just beating out New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Babson who scored 44.

Senior Zachary Velasquez was Coast Guard's top finisher crossing the line in second place (27:50.4). 

Senior Caleb Teachout and junior Christian Fields followed up Velasquez running 28:22.4 and 28:42.7 for fourth and fifth place.

The next two finishers for the Bears came along in a pair as well as freshman Andre Gallant (29:10.4) and sophomore Alex Kearney (29:10.4) crossed right next to each other in 14th and 15th place.

Finishing out the scoring and putting the entire top seven in the top 20 was sophomore Ben Taminger running 29:24.2 for 18th place and senior James Rimmele in 29:26.7 for 20th place. 

Coast Guard is back in action next weekend when they travel North for UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 17th.
