Bears Top Mariners at Purple Valley Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – In a strong field, Coast Guard earned a top ten finish with 305 points and more importantly earned a point towards the Superintendents trophy topping Merchant Marine at the Purple Valley Invitational hosted by Williams.

The Bears finished in 10th place while Amherst took the top spot with 42 points edging out second place Williams by three points (45).

Against Merchant Marine, freshman Conner Cole was the only Mariner that could break up the Bears top five as Coast Guard beat Merchant Marine 18-40

Coast Guard was led by junior Gilliam Hill who finished in 69th place (27:21.5). Shortly after Hill junior Zachary Velasquez crossed the line in 27:30.6, good enough for 78th place.

Sophomore Kevin Petow covered the 8k course in 27:38.1 for 84th place while sophomore Andrew Brown (27:50.0) and Junior Caleb Teachout (27:51.5) crossed the line one after the other in 96th and 97th place respectively.

Coast Guard return to action next weekend, Saturday October 3rd, as they travel to Lehigh, Pennsylvania for the Paul Short Invitational.
