Junior Caleb Teachout (26:55) was 18th while senior Kevin Petow (27:09) placed 23rd at the conference championship last season for the Bears.
Coast Guard, which placed third as a team at the NEWMAC Championship last season, will also return sophomores Andrew Brown (27:40 at regionals) and Brett Foster (27:55 at regionals), who ran for the Bears at the regional championship last season.
"Both the conference and the region will prove to be a competitive one come championship season," said fourth year head coach Ethan Brown. "We have our work cut out for us if we want to remain on par with last season, but our goal is to improve on that performance."
"Our team returned from the summer enthusiastic to build on the gains they made from outdoor track season," added coach Brown. "The five returners from last year's regionals squad
(Velasquez, Brown, Foster, and Teachout) are ready to step it up this year. The top finishers from last year's ECACs (Hill, Yallowitz, Rimelle, and Condon) will be critical in closing any gaps making a tighter scoring group."
The Bears welcome four newcomers to the team in Colton Atkinson (4:35 mile/15:42 5K), Ryan Brumm (4:44 mile/16:50 5K), Alex Kearney (4:32 mile/16:30 5K) and Ben Taminger (4:31 mile/16:12 5K).
"All have great potential to work their way up into a top 10-14 spot on the team come championship time," commented coach Brown on the freshmen. "Overall, I am eager to see our team progress through our first weeks of training and competition."
The Bears open up their season on September 12th at the Trinity Invitational.
