Bears Honored for Work in Classroom

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Senior Beth Gollin and junior Carolyn Smith have been both named Division III U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country (USTFCCCA) all-academic individuals while both men's and women's cross country teams EARNED all-academic honors for 2015.

The Coast Guard women's cross country team saw a pair of individuals named USTFCCCA All-Academic winners for the second year in a row. Senior Bethany Gollin (3.47, Civil Engineering) and junior Carolyn Smith (3.89, Marine and Environmental Sciences) each received the distinction for their work in the classroom for the second time in each of their careers.

325 women and 246 men in Division III earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors; honorees must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 and have finished in the top 25 percent of finishers at regionals.

All-Academic Team honors are earned by compiling a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.1. The women's team posted a team GPA of 3.13 while the men's team posted a team GPA of 3.15.
