NEW LONDON, Conn. – Ben Zarlengo broke a pair of school records to lead Coast Guard during the second day of the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College.
Zarlengo took second in the hammer with a school-record throw of 183 feet, 9 inches, that throw is tied for the 13th best in Division III this season. He broke the school record of 181 feet, 10 inches set by Kent Mack in 1977.
He was not done, as later in the day, he broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 163 feet, 1 inch breaking the mark of 159 feet, 8 inches set by Doug Brown in 1969. That throw is also the 13th best throw in Division III this season.
Also for the Bears, James Duran was second on the 400 meters with a time of 50.57 while Ed Carroll took eighth in the triple jump (41 feet, 11.25 inches) and Jason Cho was eighth in the pole vault (11 feet, 11.75 inches).
Coast Guard placed 8th of 22 teams.
The Bears are back in action next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton and the Springfield Invitational.
