Bears Post Top Marks at Corsair Classic

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Coast Guard men's track and field team finished in fourth place at the Corsair Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth Sunday Afternoon.

The Bears scored 78 points as a team while the hosts, UMass Dartmouth, won the meet with 116 points.

Sophomores Justin Jezuit and Michael Frick highlighted the day for Coast Guard as they both earned first place finishes. Jezuit won the Discus with a throw of 139-03, which is currently sixth in Division III New England. He was also third in the hammer throw (151-02) which also puts him at sixth in DIII New England in that event as well.

Frick took home first in the pole vault clearing 14-5.25. That height moves him into fourth in DIII New England.

Junior Raeford Penny earned a top three finish of his own while also helping two relays to top three finshes as well as he took third place in the 200 (22.51). His time in the 200 moves him into 8th place in Division III New England. 

Penny then teamed up with sophomore Michael Bishop and Jacob Pawlina and freshman Miguel Moroles for a second place finish in the 4x100 (43.33) followed by a third place finish in the 4x400 with senior Caleb Teachout, Morales and sophomore Alex Kearney in a time of 3:27.30.

Teachout was the only other top three finisher for the Bears as he ran 1:58.95 in the 800 crossing the line in third place. Also scoring points in the 800 was freshman Riley Miller who finished in eighth place in a time of 2:00.54.

Freshman Edward Carroll locked up a fourth place finish in the high jump clearing 6-00 while Pawlina wrapped up the scoring in the field events with a sixth place finish in the javelin (166-11). Pawlina currently holds the fourth longest through in Division III New England as he opened the season last weekend with a throw of 188-01.

Other scorers on the track were junior Ryan Condon in 3K steeplchase (10:49.75 - 5th), Caroll in the 110 hurdles (16.51 - 6th), Bishop in the 200 (23.08 - 7th) and senior James Rimmele in the 5K (16:17.33 - 6th).

The Bears are back in action this Wednesday, April 5th, when they travel to Kings Point to take on arch rival Merchant Marine.
