RICHMOND, Va. - The Coast Guard men's track and field team started of the season with a number of top performances at day two of the Fred Hardy Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.
Junior Raeford Penny led a number of fast times across the line in the 400 clocking in at 49.77 (15th place) followed by sophomore Nicholas Frystak in 49.81 (16th place). Also competing in the event was freshman Miguel Moroles (52.04) and sophomore Jacob Pawlina (53.39).
In the 800, sophomore Benjamin Taminger crossed the line in 1:56.67 to finish in eighth place. Senior Will Klein and sophomore Sydney Johnson each broke two minutes as Klein crossed the line in 1:59.23 followed by Johnson in 1:59.85.
Sophomore Michael Bishop competed in both the 100 and 200 with times of 11.82 in the preliminary heats of the 100 followed by a 23.32 in the 200.
In the field events junior Darius Adams finished in fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 22'4 1/4". Adams broke the indoor school record this past season and will be once again chasing Carl Luxhoj's long jump record this outdoor season.
Coast Guard is back in action on April 1st, when they return home for the annual Coast Guard Academy Spring Invitational.
