BOSTON, Mass. - The Coast Guard men's track and field team earned two All-New England finishes and had two more athletes qualify for finals on day one of the Open New England Championship.
Junior Darius Adams was the top finisher on the day for the Bears taking All-New England honors in the long jump with a third place finish (22-11.25). Adams was the top Division III finisher in the event and still is number one in New England and 15th in all of Division III in the long jump.
Sophomore Michael Frick earned all New England honors in the pole vault with a fifth place finish clearing 14-11.00. Teammate junior Dennis Daly finished in 11th place (14-05.25).
Junior Brett Foster qualified for the finals of the 1000, running 2:28.70 for fifth place in the preliminaries. Sophomore Jacob Pawlina also qualified for the finals in the 200 with a eighth place finish (22.43).
Sophomore Benjamin Taminger just missed the finals in the 800 crossing the line in 1:54.03 for ninth place in the preliminaries.
The only relay on the day to run for Coast Guard was the DMR quartet of freshmen Riley Milley and Miguel Moroles, sophomore Sydney Johnson and senior Caleb Teachout who combined for a ninth place finish (10:28.63).
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at day two of the Open New England Championship.
