SPRINGFIELD, Mass - Coast Guard won five events as the men's track and field team competed at the Springfield College Maroon & White Classic.
Junior Raeford Penny led a one two sweep in the 400 as he crossed the line first in 50.89 while sophomore Nicholas Frystack was second in 50.90. Freshman Aidan Becker and junior Luke Rehfuss tied for sixth in 52.83.
Junior Brett Foster was the next winner for Coast Guard in the mile running a season best 4:29.34 while freshman Riley Miller took third in 4:33.04.
The Bears swept both relays as the 4x400 of Frystack, Penny, junior Luke Rehfuss and freshman Aidan Becker ran 3:25.44 while Foster, Miller, sophomore Sydney Johnson and senior Casey Dieter-Leads crossed the line in 8:31.44 to take first in the 4x800.
The final winner of the day for Coast Guard was junior Darius Adam who jumped 21-8.0 in the long jump.
Other top finishers for the Bears on the track were sophomores Michale Bishop (23.10) and Jacob Pawlina (23.55) who were second and sixth in the 200 meter dash, Johnson second in the 800 (2:03.60), freshman Andre Gallant and Jacob panning and sophomore Alex Kearney third, fourth and fifth in the 5000(16:14.60, 16:16.43 and 16:23.79) and freshman Edward Carroll sixth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.08).
In the field events junior Sawyer Stanton and freshman Edward Carroll were third and sixth in the high jump (6-02 and 6-00) and junior Denis Daly was second in the pole vault (14-5.25) and sixth in the triple jump (38-4.0)
The Bears are back in action next Saturday, January 28, at the Tufts Multi-Event Invitational and the Bowdoin Invitational.
