NEW LONDON, CONN.--(3/31/12)--Adam Scalesse set a school and facility record as he finished first in the 110 meter hurdles as the Bears won their own invite.
Scalesse posted a time of in 14.46 which is currently the top time in the country for Division III. Scalesse also took first in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 55.64.
Coast Guard claimed the top five spots in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with Trevor Siperek winning in a time of 9:37.46. Stephen Horvath and Myles McCarthy finished second and third in 10:08.71 and 10:26.33, respectively.
In the pole vault Ben Wolhaupter, Ian Sankey, and Clay Kosack went 1-2-3. Wolhaupter cleared 3.89 meters (12' 9") while Sankey and Kosack both cleared 3.74 meters (12' 3.25").
In the throwing events Coast Guard took first and third in the shot put, with Kemron Beache recording a 14.12 meters (46' 4") toss and Byron Ayotte posting a 13.14 meters (43' 1.75") effort. Will Baker threw the hammer 42.97 meters (140' 11"), which was good for second place. In the discus Baker claimed second place with 39.44 meters (129' 5") and Jacob Bibb threw 37.71 meters (123' 9") for third place. Joel McArthur placed third in the javelin with 45.34 meters (148' 9").
In other running events, the Bears claimed a quartet of second place finishes. The 4x400 meter team of Jordan Lee, Ryan Hub, Kelcey Smith, and Joe Kelly placed second with a time of 3:26.98. Lee also finished second in the 800meter with a time of 1:58.70.Ben Hannon finished second in the 200meter with a time of 23.06 and Kevin O'Brien finished second in the 5k with a time of 16:01.77.
Coast Guard won the meet with 218 points while Westfield State was second with 125 points.
