SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Coast Guard won all six singles matches en route to an 8-1 win over Springfield in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams.
The match was moved indoors due to the weather and started with doubles with the Bears winning two of three of those matches.
The freshmen duo of Kyle Fager and Chris Lansing won 8-3 #2 doubles while senior Mike Melampy and junior Jack Phillips registered an 8-2 win at #3 doubles.
Junior Tom Hackett won 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 at #1 singles, senior John Hu was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at #2 singles, Melampy posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles, Fager recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win at #4, Phillips won 6-0, 6-1 at #5 singles and sophomore Arthur Wicke won 6-1, 6-1 at #6 singles.
The Bears improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action while the Pride dropped to 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
Coast Guard is back in action on Sunday when the Bears host Babson in a NEWMAC match at 1:00.
