#17 Tufts Beats Bears 8-1

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Tufts, ranked 17th nationally, send a split squad to Coast Guard and beat the Bears 8-1 in a match moved indoors due to rain.

The Jumbos also beat Conn. College 8-1 to improve to 8-2 on the season while the Bears drop to 6-3 on the year.

Sophomore John Hu registered the only win for the Bears and he did so at the #6 singles position. He dropped the first set 7-6 (7-5) and led 5-4 in the second set before his opponent retired.

Freshman Tom Hackett had the next closest singles match at #2. He lost 7-6 (7-5) and 6-4.

In doubles action , both the #1 team of Weston Fortna and Mark Guentert and the #3 team of Michael Melampy and Jack Phillips dropped 8-5 decisions.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they host Wheaton at 1:00 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener
