2016 Tennis Spring Preview

The men's tennis team will look to build upon the strong finish from last season and the great start during the Fall season.

Coast Guard is returning all six starters led by senior co-captains Mark Guentert and Weston Fortna who earned All Conference recognition in doubles for the second time last year.

In addition, the Bears welcome aboard a strong freshman class that hopes to bolster the starting line-up and provide depth to the roster. Coast Guard was 8-7 overall last season and 4-2 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) advancing to the conference tournament semifinals for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.

Coast Guard posted a record of 4-1 in dual meets in the Fall with wins over Vassar, Salve Regina, Nichols as well as Division II Assumption.

Fortna and Guentert were 8-3 overall and 4-1 in dual matches as the Bears top doubles team in the Fall.

Ben Errington and Tom Hackett were 3-0 at #2 while Mike Melampy and Jack Phillips were 2-0 at #2 for the Bears. Melampy and Phillips were also 2-1 at #3 doubles.

Guentert was 2-2 in the #1 singles spot in the Fall after going 6-5 at #2 doubles last year.

Fortna was 7-1 in the Fall in singles, going 4-1 in dual matches including 3-0 at #4. He was 8-7 as the Bears #3 singles player last year.

John Hu led the Bears with a 12-2 singles mark last season, going 10-2 in dual meets at #5 singles. He was 6-1 in the Fall in singles play going 3-0 in dual meets at #6.

The Bears open the Spring portion of the season on March 24th when they host archrival Merchant Marine at 3:30.

Coast Guard will open NEWMAC play at home against Wheaton on April 9th at 1:00.
