NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Coast Guard Academy co-hosted the Camels/Bears Invitational on a wet and windy Saturday. Five teams participated: Coast Guard, Conn College, Nichols, Colby Sawyer, and Babson each bringing four doubles and eight singles.

The Bears posted a 5-3 record in doubles. Each of the doubles teams won and lost one match with the exception of Michael Melampy and Jack Phillips at #3 doubles, winning both of their matches against Colby-Sawyer's #2 team: Ryan Sawyer and Dean Boodakian and Nichols #2 team.

In singles, the Bears won seven of their nine matches. Due to the wet weather each team was only able to play one round of singles. There were a number of great matches all around with performances from Thomas Hackett coming back after losing the first set and being well down in the second to rally back and win against Babson's #2 player in the third set tie breaker.

John Hu had a two hour match that also went three sets winning: 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-5 in the third set tie breaker. Robert Renfrow had one of the fastest matches winning quickly against the Nichols #2 player.

The Bears will be traveling to Trinity this Wednesday for their next match.
