Bears Cruise to Win Over Salve Regina

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Coast Guard cruised to a 9-0 win over Salve Regina.

The Bears dropped just five games total winning all matches in straight sets to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Senior Weston Fortna teamed with classmate Mark Guentert to win #1 doubles 8-0.  Sophomore Michael Melampy and freshman Jack Phillips won 8-1 at #2 doubles while sophomore John Hu and freshman Adrian Chau posted an 8-0 win at #3 doubles.

In singles action, Hackett was 6-1, 6-0 winner at #1, senior Robert Renfrow won 6-0, 6-1 at #2. Fortna won 6-0, 6-0 at #3, sophomore Benson Errington was as 6-1, 6-0 winner at #4, Phillips won 6-0, 6-1 at #5 and Chau was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at #6 singles for the Bears.

Coast Guard is back in action on Saturday in the Conn. College Invitational with matches played at both Conn. College and the Coast Guard Academy beginning at 10 a.m.
