Men's tennis rolls to 8-1 victory over Springfield
NEW LONDON, Conn.-The Coast Guard men's tennis team swept through the singles matches en route to an 8-1 victory over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Springfield. Coast Guard (3-7, 1-1 NEWMAC) lost only one singles set on the day and only lost to Springfield's (6-5, 0-2 NEWMAC) number one doubles pair.
After falling behind one set to none, Blake Maurer came roaring back to win at number one singles (3-6, 6-3, 10-3). The rest of the Coast Guard singles matches went without much issue, highlighted by freshmen Robert Renfrow's (6-1, 6-1) and Weston Fortna's (6-0, 6-1) performances at number two and number four singles, respectively.
After Guentert and Fortna fell at number one doubles by an 8-4 score, the Bears would claim victories in each of the other two doubles matches. Maurer/Renfrow (8-2) and Sullivan-Springhetti/Bryson (8-3) won at number two and number three doubles, respectively.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 6th with a home match against Babson at 1:00 pm.
