Bears Beat Division I Holy Cross In Spring Opener
NEW LONDON, Conn.—Junior Josh Fischer won at both No. 1 singles and teamed with senior Blake Maurer to win at No. 1 doubles as Coast Guard opened up the Spring portion of the schedule with a 7-2 win over Division I Holy Cross.
Fischer won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 single while him and Maurer registered an 8-2 win at doubles as the Bears won their first match of the season and are now 1-4 overall.
Freshman Robert Renfrow won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2; Freshman Mark Guentert recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 while Freshman Weston Fortna won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles for the Bears.
Coast Guard swept the three doubles matches with Fortna and Guentert winning 8-6 at No. 2 doubles while Renfrow and sophomore Andrew Bryson won 8-4 at No.3 doubles in the win.
The Bears are back in action on March 23rd when they travel to Brandeis for a 1 p.m. match.
