MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Coast Guard, ranked 16th nationally, won every swimming event as the Bears captured the five team Connecticut Cup at Wesleyan.
The Bears won with 794 points followed by Conn. College (486), Wesleyan (292), St. Joseph of Hartford (125) and Western Connecticut (124).
Patrick Jackson won the 50 backstroke (24.44), 100 butterfly (51.77) and the 100 backstroke (52.56) while Devin McClure won the 200 freestyle (1:45.70), 500 freestyle (4:40.85) and the 200 backstroke (1:56.07) to lead the Bears.
The Bears 200 free relay of John Pompay, Tyler Dominick, Daniel Jenkins and Joe Rodriguez won with a time of 1:24.36 while the 400 medley relay of McClure, Eric Fuhs, Jackson and John Pompay won with a time of 3:28.98.
Coast Guard also won the 200 medley relay as the team of Jackson, Chasse Sodemann, Dominick and Rodriguez posted a time of 1:33.57 and the 400 freestyle relay team of McClure, Pompay, Dominick and Rodriguez won in 3:11.26.
The Bears had several double winners as Fuhs won the 100 breaststroke (56.86) and the 200 breaststroke (2:06.83), Colin Fenster won the 400 IM (4:13.55) and the 200 IM (1:59.61) and Rodriguez won the 50 freestyle (20.80) and the 100 freestyle (46.86).
Also for the Bears Taylor Rowe won the 1,650 freestyle (16:34.88), Christian Lower won the 200 butterfly (1:54.74), Sodemann won the 50 breaststroke (26.34) and Dominick won the 50 butterfly (23.29).
Coast Guard is back in action on January 10th against Babson at Wellesley at 1:00.
