Westkott Named NEWMAC Men's Co-Swimming Coach of the Year

BOSTON, Mass - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2016-17 Men's Swimming and Diving Coaches of the Year as well as the All-Sportsmanship Team Award Recipients. Wheaton College head coach, Barrett Roberts along with U.S. Coast Guard head coach, John Westkott earned men's Co-Swimming Coaches of the Year honors.

Westkott earns the honor for second straight season and the seventh time in his career as the Bears, who finished third at the NEWMAC Championship in each of the last four seasons, placed second to nine-time defending champion MIT.

Westkott has led the Bears to six conference championships (1999, 2001, 2004 and 2006-2008). The team has also finished second eight times at the NEWMAC Championship meet.

The men's team has a phenomenal dual meet record of 137-40 for a winning percentage of .774 under Westkott during his 18 years.

The Bears will send two swimmers, senior Chasse Sodemann and sophomore Taylor Rowe, to the Division III National Championship starting on March 15th and running through the 19th.
