WORCESTER, Mass. - Coast Guard opened the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming & Diving Championships with a school record on day one at WPI Thursday evening.
The men's 800 free relay finished in second place in a time of 6:50.00 breaking the school record of 6:50.86 set in 2016 by Ross Garrett, Dan Moreno, Chasse Sodemann and Patrick Jackson. The record setting team was comprised of Garrett, senior Mike Franco, freshman Max McCall and senior Elliot Van Deren.
Sophomore Will French finished in fifth place in the 3 meter diving with 415.95 points.
Coast Guard sits in fourth place after day one of the four day championship with 78 points.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at day two of the NEWMAC Championships starting at 10:00 with the 200 free relay prelims.
