Bears Beat Archrival Merchant Marine

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Junior Ross Garrett and sophomores Chasse Sodemann and Dan Moreno each won two individual events and were part of the winning 400 medley relay team leading Coast Guard to a 159-139 win over archrival Merchant Marine in the final home meet of the season.

The Bears beat the Mariners for the first time since 2013 to improve to 4-2 in duals meets this season.

Garrett won the 100 butterfly (52.34) and the 200 freestyle (1:46.74), Sodemann won the 100 breaststroke (57.79) and the 100 freestyle (48.40) while Moreno won the 200 breaststroke (2:08.91) and the 200 IM (1:57.68).

The Bears 400 medley relay team of sophomore Patrick Jackson, Sodemann, Garrett and Moreno posted a winning time of 3:29.92.

Also for the Bears, sophomore Will French won the 3-meter diving with 284.32 points.

Freshman Max McCall was second in the 200 freestyle (1:48.33), sophomore Taylor Rowe was second in the 500 freestyle (4:48.19) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:58.86), Jackson was second in the 100 backstroke (54.48), freshman Owen Gibson was second in the 200 butterfly (1:58.81) and senior Zach Weeks was second in the 200 backstroke (2:01.66) while French took second on the 1-meter board with 266.02 points.

The Bears are back in action on January 21st at Clark at 1:00.
