WELLESLEY, Mass. - Coast Guard took 12 first place finishes on their way to a 187-86 victory over Babson in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
Sophomore Taylor Rowe and junior Ross Garrett both took two individual first place finishes for the Bears as Rowe was first in the 1000 freestyle (10:07.65) and the 500 freestyle (4:51.83) and Garrett claimed the top spot in the 100 butterfly (52.26) and the 200 butterfly (1:59.85).
Senior Mike Franco took first in the 200 freestyle in 1:47.85 and was second in the 500 freestyle in 4:55.20. Sophomores Dan Moreno and Patrick Jackson each took a first and second as well with Moreno winning the 100 freestyle (49.77) and taking second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.35). Jackson touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke in 54.99 and was second in the 200 medley relay along with senior Carl Fuhs, freshman Joe Rodriguez and junior Brandon Ledford.
Sophomore Will French swept the diving events winning the one meter with 227.40 points and the three meter with 265.25 points.
Sophomore Zachary Baker tacked on two more second place finishes for the Bears in the 100 backstroke (57.20) and the 200 backstroke (2:04.40).
Other top finishers for Coast Guard were senior Zach Weeks (200 backstroke, 1st, 2:04.15), Rodriguez (50 freestyle, 1st, 22.22), freshman John Pompay (200 breaststroke, 1st, 2:15.65), freshman Owen Gibson (200 butterfly, 2nd, 2:00.16), Ledford (50 freestyle, 2nd, 22.41) and sophomore Justin Kang (200 breaststroke, 2nd, 2:16.86)
Coast Guard is back in action this weekend when they host MIT in NEWMAC action. The meet will begin at noon.
