MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Sophomore Taylor Rowe won two events, including a B cut time in the 1650 freestyle as the Bears won the Connecticut Cup hosted by Wesleyan.
The Bears won the meet with 691 points for the second year in a row.
Rowe swam 16:15.36 to win the 1650 free and come in just under the NCAA Division III B cut standard of 16:16.65. He also won the 500 free in 4:41.60.
Junior Ross Garrett won two events, came second in another, was on two winning relays and was on a second place relay team. He touched the wall first in the 100 fly (51.28) and the 50 fly (23.66). He was also second in the 200 fly (1:57.08).
Garrett teamed with sophomores Patrick Jackson, Chasse Sodemann and Dan Moreno to win the 400 medley (3:28.15) and joined Sodemann and Jackson along with freshman Joe Rodriguez to outpace every other team in the 200 medley relay (1:35.43). His final second place finish of the day was with Sodemann, Moreno and junior Max McCall in the 400 free relay in a time of 3:14.43.
On top of swimming on two winning relays, Sodemann also won the 100 breast (57.40) the 50 breast (26.63) and was third in the 200 breast (2:12.47).
Freshman John Pompay took first in the 200 breast in 2:08.68 while also taking second place finishes in both 100 breast (59.12) and the 200 IM (2:00.34).
Also winning an individual event for the Bears was Rodriguez who touched the wall first in the 50 free in 21.66. Rodriguez was also a member of the 200 free relay (1:27.39) and the 200 medley relay (1:35.43) that both finished first. He also took second in the 50 fly (23.70).
The final individual winner of the day for Coast Guard was Jackson who won the 100 back in 53.19. Jackson was also third in the 200 back in 1:59.87.
Other top finishers for the Bears were freshman Owen Gibson (200 fly, 1:57.31, third), senior Zach Week (200 IM, 2:00.55, third), sophomore Zachary Baker (200 back, 1:59.61 second & 50 back, 25.94, third), Junior Adam Peterson (100 free, 48.17, second & 200 free, 1:46.07, second), McCall (200 free, 1:46.26, third), sophomore Taehyun Jung (100 breast, 1:00.71, third & 50 breast, 28.28, second) senior Mike Franco (500 free, 4:48.93, third), junior Colin Fenster (400 IM, 4:15.62, second) Moreno (200 breast, 2:09.29, second) and junior Brandon Ledford (50 fly, 24.06, third).
Coast Guard is back in action after the New Year, when they travel to Wellesley to swim against NEWMAC foe, Babson.
