KINGSTON, R.I. -- Sophomore Chasse Sodemann won a pair of events and was part of a winning relay leading Coast Guard to a season-opening 165-114 win over NEWMAC rival Springfield at the University of Rhode Island.
Sodemann won the 100 breaststroke (57.89) and the 200 breaststroke (2:12.52) while the Bears 200 medley relay of sophomore Patrick Jackson, Sodemann, junior Brandon Ledford and freshman Joe Rodriguez won with a time of 1:38.79.
Coast Guard had several event winners in the win. Sophomore Taylor Rowe won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:05.25. Junior Ross Garrett won the 200 freestyle (1:45.82), Jackson won the 100 backstroke (54.63), freshman Owen Gibson won the 200 butterfly (2:00.99), sophomore Isaiah Green won the 50 free in 22.51 and junior Adam Peterson won the 100 freestyle (49.88).
Also for the Bears, sophomore Will French swept the diving events winning both the 1-meter with 204.45 points and the 3-meter with 218.70 points.
The Bears are back in action on Friday night when they host Wheaton at 6 p.m.
