NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Sophomore Andy
Anderson and junior Sara Cantrell have been named the New
England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Divers of
Anderson broke his own school record on the 3-meter board and won the 1-meter event in the Bears 145-75 win over Clark while Cantrell won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in the Bears 142-89 win over Clark on Saturday.
Anderson's school-record six dive score of 327.80 in the 3-meter event on Saturday also qualified him for the NCAA regional meet. He placed 13th on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at the NCAA Diving Regional last season.
Cantrell also qualified for the NCAA regional meet with a
winning score of 283.43 on the 3-meter board while also winning on
the 1-meter board with a score of 252.68. Last season, she became
the first Coast Guard female diver to qualify for the NCAA
Championships. She placed 17th on the 1-meter board and
22nd on the 3-meter board at the NCAA's last season.
They will both compete at the NCAA Division III Diving Regional at RPI on Feb. 28th and March 1st.
The Bears will compete at Wesleyan on Saturday in the final dual meet of the season before the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships which take place Feb. 20th-23rd at WPI.
