Men’s Swimming and Diving Completes Day One at the WPI Winter Invite

WORCESTER, Mass.-Sophomore Ben Morseth recorded a pair of top-five individual finishes and another in a relay to lead the Coast Guard men's swimming and diving team at the preliminaries of the Gompei Invitational hosted by WPI on Saturday.

Morseth took home second place honors in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.58 while coming fourth in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:00.63. He was also a member of the fourth place-finishing 400 medley relay team that completed their race in a time of 3:36.24. Joining him in the event were freshman Carl Fuhs and juniors Ryan Buys and Christian Brindamour.

Brindamour took home the lone victory for the Bears on the afternoon, finishing tops in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.34 an NCAA B cut time and just one one hundreth of a second off of his school record time. He was also part of the 200 freestyle relay team along with senior Marco Tinari, Buys, and sophomore Timothy Dion. They finished second place with a solid time of 1:27.96.

Buys rounded out top-five finishers for Coast Guard placing fourth in the 100 butterfly in 53.07 seconds.

Coast Guard returns to action tomorrow when they complete the Gompei Invitational at WPI before heading off for Winter Break. When they return from break they will travel to Wellesley to compete in a tri-meet with the host's and Babson.
