Men’s Swimming and Diving Impressive at Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-Sophomore Ben Morseth won three events to pace the Coast Guard men's swimming and diving team to a sweep of Springfield and Rhode Island at Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Bears blew by Rhode Island 224-53 and knocked off the host Pride 170-126.
Morseth took home individual titles in the 100 backstroke (56.10), 200 backstroke (2:01.92), and 200 individual medley (2:01.09). Other multiple event winners were freshman Aaron Overheim and junior Christian Brindamour. Overheim won both the 500 and 1000 freestyle with times of 4:52.88 and 10:07.80, respectively. Brindamour took home victories in both the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 21.12 and 47.72, respectively.
The 200 medley relay team of Brindamour, senior Jacob Kramb, junior Ryan Buys, and freshman Carl Fuhs got the Bears off to a winning start with a time of 1:39.72. Buys also won an individual event by posting a time of 53.33 in the 100 butterfly.
Senior Marco Tinari and freshman Londen Thomas also won events for the Bears. Tinari won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.31 and Thomas took home a victory in the 200 butterfly in 2:00.24, respectively.
Sophomore Andy Anderson was the highest Coast Guard finisher in diving events with a score of 275.25 in the 3-meter dive, good for a second place finish.
Coast Guard returns to action on Saturday, November 9th against Wheaton at 12:00 pm.
