KINGSTON, R.I.—Sophomore Christian Brindamour won three individual events and was part of a winning relay team leading Coast Guard to a pair of dual meet wins over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Springfield and host Rhode Island.
The Bears beat Springfield 160-138 while also beating the Division I Rams 213.5-71.5 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Brindamour won the 100 backstroke (55.41), the 50 freestyle in 21.38 and the 100 freestyle (48.41) while the Bears 200 medley relay team of Brindamour, sophomore Derrian Duryea, sophomore Ryan Buys and senior Kevin Smit won with a time of 1:39.21.
Junior Marco Tinari won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:12.16 and the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:54.97. Duryea won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.78) and the 200 breaststroke (2:14.86), Smit won the 200 butterfly (2:00.34), while junior Barrett Johannsen won the 100 butterfly (54.31)
Freshman Ben Morseth won the 200 backstroke (2:01.77) and was second the 100 backstroke (56.50).
Smit was second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.92), Tinari was second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.59 while Buys was second in the 100 butterfly in 54.41.
