Bears Finish Third at Union Relays

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore Derrian Duryea was part of two first place relay teams that led Men's Swimming to a third place finish at the season opening Union Relays.

Duryea was the first leg of the 300 yard breastroke relay team that finished first with a time of 3:12.29. Duryea was teamed up with senior Michael Piantedosi and freshman Timothy Dion for the win.

Duryea was also part of the 200 yard medley relay that was first place finishers with a time of 1:39.81. Duryea was joined by junior Jacob Kramb and sophomores Christian Brindamour and Ryan Buys.

The men's team got another first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Sophomores Brindamour and Adam Hoburg with junior Alex Dona and senior Kevin Smit combined for a time of 1:29.31.

Also for the Bears, the 300 yard backstroke team of Kramb, senior Tanner Armstrong, and junior Marc McAndrew took second with a time of 2:54.04.

The 300 yard butterfly team of junior Barrett Johannsen, Smit, and Buys were second in 2:42.30.

Piantedosi, Hoburg, senior Nick Poehler, and junior Marco Tinari were second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of4:20.80.

In the 600 yard medley relay team of Smit, Armstrong, Johannsen, finished second with a time of 6:19.39.

Coast Guard finished third with 100 points. Host Union College won with 152 points.

Next weekend the Bears will take on the University of Rhode Island and Springfield College at URI at 1:00p.
