Bears Play Third Straight Overtime Game to Start Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Coast Guard men's soccer team played their third straight overtime game of the season, tying Johnson & Wales 1-1 in nonconference action Wednesday evening. 

With the tie, the Bears move to 0-1-2 on the season while the Wildcats remained unbeaten at 2-0-1.

Sophomore Noa Pagatpatan scored his second goal of the season. He has scored in back-to-back games for the first time in his career.

Johnson & Wales was led by freshman Kasey Kureshi who scored his first goal of the season while junior Jason Cruz came off the bench for the team's lone assist.

The Wildcats took the lead in the first half, as Cruz found Kureshi 25 yards out who fired a shot into the back of the net in the 37thminute giving Johnson & Wales the 1-0 halftime lead.

Just over eight minutes into the second half, the Bears found the equalizer after a foul by the Wildcats gave Coast Guard a penalty kick. Pagatpatan stepped up and put the shot away tying the game at one.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in regulation or overtime as Coast Guard wrapped up their second consecutive 1-1 tie.

Junior Dakota Harich (0-1-1) had a season high fives saves for his first result of the season in goal for the Bears.

Senior Nicholas Mancini (2-0-1) remained unbeated for the Wildcats, making one save on the night.

Coast Guard is back in action this Saturday, September 8th, when they host rival Merchant Marine. Opening kickoff is 11:30.
