NEW LONDON, Conn. - Senior Austin Read has been selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior Bowl, to be held at Brandeis University on November 26th at 1:00.
Read's NEISL Senior Bowl selection is just the most recent accolade to add to his Coast Guard resume. As co-captain, Read has led Coast Guard to their first 10 win season since 2014. Read earned NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year honors after a stellar season anchoring the Bears back four. He led a Coast Guard defense that was 12th in the nation in shutout percentage (.611), second in the conference and 18th in the nation in goals against average (0.58) and second in the conference in total shutouts (11). Read is a three time All-NEWMAC selection and a 2016 third team All-Region selection. He has started 71 of 73 games in his collegiate career tallying 26 points on 12 goals and two assists.
Read is also a two time CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District selection and a 2016 CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American. He is currently on the ballot to repeat as Academic All-American.
The Bears return 24 players next year to a team that advanced to the NEWMAC semi-finals this past season.
