BOSTON, Mass. – Coast Guard scored two first half goals as the Bears topped Emerson 2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Coast Guard improves to 4-2-1 on the season and earns their first NEWMAC win of the year (1-1). The Lions fall to 3-4-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Bears got on the board early as Palermo-Re sent a corner kick into the Emerson penalty box in the fifth minute. Furry rose-up and headed it home giving Coast Guard the 1-0 lead.
Just under a minute after being subbed into the game midway through the second half, Ottomanelli made true on a Dandan pass and fired home the second goal of the game at the 27:20 mark for the Bears and the 2-0 lead headed into halftime.
With the scoreless second half Coast Guard wrapped up their fourth shutout of the season.
Sophomore Dakota Harich (1-1) made one save on one shot on goal for his first shutout of the season.
Senior Lucas Fishcer made six saves on eight shots on goal allowing the two goals.
Coast Guard is back in action at home on Wednesday, September 27th, when they host the Mitchell Mariners in non-conference action. Opening kickoff is 6:00.
